The prize-winning works of the Composition for Two Pianos 2022-2023, dedicated to the memory of Theodoros Antonios and designed and organized by the Region of Crete and the Union of Greek Musicians, were presented with great success in the alternative stage. at the National Opera.
As stated in the relevant announcement “the concert is sponsored by the ELLS Alternative Stage and the works are presented by the piano duo “Antithesis” with Dimitris Karydis and Petros Moschos, who offer the participants a unique concert as the 3rd and last stop.after Crete and London.
In addition to the award-winning works of Stathis Chomatsa (1st Prize), Stamatis Pasopoulos (2nd Prize) and Angelos Mastrantonis (3rd Prize), the audience enjoyed the interpretation of the works of Percy Granger, Yiannis Konstantinidis, Darius Migio and Fazil Yes.
The audience applauded for a long time and the piano duo responded with another amazing performance of De Fallia’s masterwork.
The coordination of the competition from the beginning to the end was carried out by: Ioanna Giannari, collaborator of the Region of Crete in matters of contemporary culture, MA in Arts Management, City University and Eleni Skarkou, Vice President of the Union of Greek Musicians – The composer and member of the Board S. of the National Opera.
It is worth pointing out that the “team of 5” initiators of the competition (Ioanna Giannari, Dimitris Karydis, Petros Moschos, Iosif Papadatos and Eleni Skarkou) worked together for two years to plan, organize and finally coordinate and manage the its implementation.
According to the appointed consultant-in-charge of the Festival of the Region of Crete, Evangelos Zaharis (Chairman of the Regional Council of Crete),
“In the Region of Crete, with the cooperation and approval of our Regional Governor Stavros Arnautakis, we are implementing a policy of extroversion for modern culture that aims to connect the cultural field with international currents and at the same time highlight and develop the modern culture of Crete, on the international stage” .
This goal – as mentioned by Mr. Zaharis, – “goes through the artistic, organizational and functional empowerment of agencies and artists and requires the strengthening of artistic and cultural organizations, which are now established as strong which are institutions in the field of culture.
In this light, we participate in the organization of the Composition Competition for 2 pianos 2022-2023, dedicated to the memory of Theodoros Antoniou. It is a great artistic initiative, which with the participation of the Union of Greek Musicians and the Heraklion Piano Festival gathers the interest of famous musicians from Greece and the world. From Crete,
the starting point of the competition, and after the presentation of the prize-winning works in London, in the welcoming Hellenic Center, we arrive at the Alternative Stage of the National Opera where we end this musical journey in Crete, London , Athens with great success.
