The annual general assembly of the Hoteliers’ Union of Rhodes was held with the great participation of hoteliers and tourism players, in the presence of the president of the Panhellenic Federation of Hoteliers, Yiannis Hatzis. In his statement, the president of POX expressed his opposition to the easy use of the term “hypertourism”.
“Complaints about “hypertourism” so far are an attempt to hide the real problem. Public infrastructures lack private ones. That’s why long-term strategic planning is needed to put all the data on the table in their true dimension “, he emphasized.
Mr. Hatzis also added that SETE, from 2021, is preparing through INSATE the study “Greek Tourism 2030 | Action Plans” for the development of the country’s tourism products in destinations and destination clusters from all Regions of the country, which includes a list of infrastructure projects throughout Greece that will help not only tourism, but the economy in general.
“Tourism increases the national wealth and if we want it to continue, a large part of this wealth must return to society in the form of stable and modern infrastructures in the whole spectrum of daily life”, reprimanded by the president of POX.
Sustainable development
During the general meeting, the president of the Hoteliers’ Union of Rhodes, Ioannis Papavasileiou, discussed in detail the main actions, synergies and acquisitions of EXR in matters concerning the economy, work, education and sustainable development of tourism. He pointed out, among other things, the memorandum of the Prime Minister on the reduction of VAT, the cooperation of the South Aegean Region within the Rhodes Colab program and the request of the rector of the University of the Aegean for the creation of a department of studies in tourism.
In addition, Mr. Papavasileiou says: “Regarding the Town Planning Plan of Rhodes, it is important to ensure the future of the hotel and tourist development of the island and its citizens, with appropriate planning and necessary infrastructure. An adequate consultation is needed so that we do not find ourselves before the end, in the context of the democratic dialogue of the Municipality and the Region, and of competent productive bodies such as TEE, EXR, EBED”.
Present at the General Assembly, which continues in Rhodes, are, among others, the former Presidents of POX, Mr. Vassilis Minaidis and Antonis Kambourakis.
