Details about accommodation activity in the category of hotels, camping and short-stay collective accommodation (rooms for rent), for the reference month of May 2024, announced the ELSTAT.
According to the data of the relevant research, in the month of May 2024 the arrivals of tourist accommodation amounted to 3,754,414 and the overnight stays to 15,012,287, marking an increase compared to the corresponding month of the year 2023, by 3.4 % of arrivals and 4.6% of overnight stays
In particular, in the month of May 2024 compared to the corresponding month of 2023, there was a 3.6% increase in arrivals and a 4.7% increase in overnight stays by foreigners. Accordingly, for nationals, an increase in arrivals and overnight stays was observed by 2.5% and 3.7%, respectively.
Foreigners contributed the majority of arrivals and overnight stays in total accommodation, with 81.4% and 89.7%, respectively. The average total overnight stay for the month of May 2024 was 4 days.
What do the Bank of Greece numbers show?
Travel receipts in May reached 1.935 billion euros, ie before the opening of the tourist season, recording an increase of 6.8% compared to the same month last year (1.811 billion euros). According to data from the Bank of Greece, non-resident tourist arrivals also increased by 21.3% compared to May 2023.
In the five months of 2024, non-resident arrivals increased by 20.6% and related receipts by 16.2%.
It is worth noting that according to the INSATE bulletin, during the period January-May 2024, 5.9 million international air arrivals were recorded, surpassing the level of January-May 2023, showing an increase of +12.8%/ +672 thousand.
Also, international road arrivals in the period January-May 2024 reached 2.5 million compared to 2.2 million in the period January-May 2023, showing an increase of +13.3%/+296 thousand arrivals reach the road.
In the first half of 2024, international air arrivals at the 14 airports of Fraport reached 9,263,446 compared to 8,593,915 in the same period last year, marking an increase of 7.8%, while at “Eleftherios Venizelos” passenger traffic ( arrivals and departures) reached 19,862, 8,254,373 in the same period last year (19.5% increase).
