Greece gets the highest level of satisfaction from its competitors from foreigners tourists which arrived in the hundreds of thousands in the first months of the new year and exceeded 3.1 million in air arrivals, increased by 12.3% annually.

In particular, according to the monthly bulletin of INSATE, during the period January-April 2024, 3.1 million international air arrivals were recorded, surpassing the level of January-April 2023, showing an increase of +12.3% /+335 thousand arrivals. April started with a slight increase (+ 6.0% / + 83k) with international wind arrivals reaching 1.5m.
Individual geographical units recorded an increase during January-April 2024 except for the Cyclades. In particular, in the geographical unit of Crete, international air arrivals reached 312 thousand, registering an increase of +8 thousand/+ 2.8%. International air arrivals at Dodecanese airports reached 208 thousand, registering an increase of +21 thousand / + 11.3%. In the geographical unit of the Ionian Islands, an increase of +10 thousand/+10.4% was recorded, while 111 thousand international air arrivals were recorded. In the Peloponnese geographical unit, international air arrivals reached 9 thousand, recording an increase of +1 thousand/+14.8%. In the Cyclades there were 45 thousand international air arrivals, showing a decrease of -4 thousand / -8.7%. Finally, in the Peloponnese, air arrivals reached 9 thousand, marking an increase of +1 thousand / + 14.8%.
Road Arrivals
In the period January-April 2024, 1.8 million international road arrivals were recorded, compared to 1.7 million in the period January-April 2023, showing an increase of +5.1%/+85 thousand arrivals on the road.
In April, for the first time in 2024, there was a decrease of -48 thousand/-8.5%, while 516 thousand were recorded.
In the period January-April 2024, arrivals from North Macedonia decreased by -32 thousand/-6.4% with road arrivals at 468 thousand and from Albania -38 thousand/-8.1% as road arrivals amount to 437 thousand, the increase from Bulgaria amounts to +51 thousand/+10.6% with 532 thousand arrivals and from Turkey to +104 thousand/ +49.0% with the road reaching 317 thousand.
Quality indicators of hotels in Greece and competitors
In the four months of January-April 2024, Greece showed an overall level of satisfaction with the hotel services offered at 87% with Cyprus following at 86% Italy and Spain with 85% Turkey 84% and France 81%
In April Greece and Cyprus are in first place in the general satisfaction index (GRI) of hotels with 87%. Turkey and Spain are in second place with 85%, followed by Italy with 84%. In last place is France with 81%.
Travel Receipts
In the period January-March 2024, travel receipts showed an increase of + 28.2% compared to the corresponding period of 2023 and amounted to € 942 million.
This increase is due to the increase in receipts from residents of the countries of the European Union by + 48.2%, which amounted to € 470 million, as well as the increase in receipts from residents of other countries of + 13,1% to 451 million €.
In more detail, receipts from residents of the countries of the € zone amounted to € 382 million, increased by + 44.5% while receipts from residents of the countries of the European Union outside the euro zone increased of + 66,5% and amounted to 88 million. euros.
In particular, receipts from Germany increased by +43.8% and amounted to €96 million, while receipts from France decreased by -3.7% and amounted to €50 million.
From other countries, receipts from the United Kingdom showed an increase of +4.8% to €57 million, while receipts from the USA increased by +32.4% to €101 million.
