On each beach, the area of ​​each concession does not exceed 500 square meters, with umbrella chairs occupying up to 60% of the concession area.
Violations
The violations, however, on the islands do not seem to wait for the start of the summer season.
“Constructions continue to exist. There are already clear, there are complaints, there are already illegal jobs on the beach. And in the winter a lot happens on the island and continues to happen on the beaches. The plowing of sand, the treading of tractors, stepping on vehicles”, said Eleni Andrianopoulou, a resident of Naxos.
In the Mycoast application, downloaded by 30,000 citizens, there are already 1,959 complaints of coastal encroachment, most of which are located in Preveza, Halkidiki, the Dodecanese, Eastern Attica and the Cyclades.
Fines
For blocking free public access to the sea, the foreshore and the beach, fines from 2,000 to 60,000 euros, criminal penalties, and exemption of new concessions for the violator are foreseen.
There must be a distance of at least 6 meters between the concessions and the umbrella seats must be at least 4 meters from the sea.
With bathers worried about whether the measures will be implemented, the Ministry of Digital Governance has also activated Artificial Intelligence tools, which will scan the beaches and detect any violations.
This summer, MEGA also registered complaints and highlighted the arbitrariness, which deprives bathers of free access to the beaches.
