Five years after assuming the position of General Secretary, Mr. Fragakis left the Hellenic Tourism Organization.

GG’s announcement at EOT

“Now a big circle is closing for me. In a letter I sent to the Prime Minister, I informed him that I am leaving the Hellenic Tourism Organization.

I took over the EOT in 2019 when tourism performed very well and I entrusted it to the tourism industry which achieved the highest record of arrivals and income this year. This success is not a coincidence because in recent years we have faced a series of crises, the biggest one being the health crisis that has changed almost everything. But through the adventures we experienced we came out stronger. The country’s image abroad has strengthened while our tourism product itself has grown significantly. In this collective, national effort, the EOT left its mark.

We associate with the private sector without preconceptions, we dare when necessary without hesitation, we innovate by making a difference against the competition.

We quickly adapt to new data and in many cases we shape it.

We build strong alliances abroad and build relationships of trust at home.

All this with systematic work and with an eye on society and the real economy.

We have changed the Organization, modernized its operation and evolved – always against the present. In these last five years, EOT has become stronger and is now appreciated and respected within and outside the borders. Perhaps this is the greatest legacy for the future. In this course I am not afraid of responsibility. I did it perfectly, without denying it failures and mistakes.

I would like to thank Kyriakos Mitsotakis for his trust, support and inspiration. It is my honor to serve in his government.

I also thank the political leaders of the Ministry of Tourism for their cooperation.

I thank my office colleagues who, with great patience and hard work, supported the great effort we made.

I also want to thank the President of the Board of Directors of the Organization, Angela Gerekou, with whom we work well together, as well as the members of the Board of Directors.

I also owe a debt of gratitude to the representatives of collective, professional and institutional tourism organizations across the country who together have achieved so much.

I also owe thanks to the Regional Governors and Mayors as well as the MPs and executives of New Democracy throughout Greece who supported us in difficult times.

I leave the executives of EOT, its workers in Greece and abroad. I thank them personally and I owe them a lot! Words are not good enough to express my gratitude to all these people with whom we share so much.

I personally feel satisfied and satisfied to have achieved a measurable task. I think, at the right time, we ourselves will determine the time and the way we leave. And the time has come for me. After all, change is a condition for progress and success.
