Passenger traffic: 12.2% increase at the country’s airports in the first quarter of 2024

A 12.2% increase was shown in passenger traffic and 6.4% of aircraft traffic at all airports in the country, according to statistics from the Civil Aviation Service (CAA) in the first quarter of 2024.

Specifically, an increase (+) of 12.2% compared to last year results in passenger traffic January-April 2024 for all airports in the country where commercial flights are made (39 airports: 24 CAA, 14 FRAPORT GREECE, AIA). In more detail, the total number of passengers in the period January – April 2024 reached 12,586,931, compared to 11,223,043 passengers in the corresponding period January – April 2023.

Of the 24 airports managed by CAA, Heraklion “Nikos Kazantzakis” airport handled the largest number of passengers in April 2024, recording an increase in domestic passenger arrivals of (+) 13.7 % compared to April 2023. In particular, in April 2024 domestic passengers arrived. in Heraklion was 69,628, while last year in April there were 61,240 passengers. In total domestic and international passengers (departures and arrivals), Heraklion airport handled 487,303 passengers in April this year, compared to 468,324 passengers last year.

Regarding the number of aircraft movements (domestic and international arrivals and departures) in the 1st quarter of 2024 for all 39 airports in the country, whose air traffic control is implemented by the CAA, there is an increase (+) which is 6.4% in comparison. in the corresponding period of January – April of 2023. In particular, in the 1st quarter of 2024, 108,623 flights were made, compared to 102,079 flights in the 1st quarter of 2023.
