USA: The New York Greek Film Festival is back

The emblematic institution for the promotion of Greek cinema in the USA, the “New York Greek Film Festival” returns from September, after a five-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

This time the Festival has an artistic theme honoring Crete, with the participation of many artists from the island. The announcement of the restoration of the Greek Film Festival was made at the 72nd annual event of the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce in Manhattan on the occasion of awarding the Greek ship owner Giorgos Oikonomos as “Person of the Year”, which has a large amount. presence of prominent executives from shipping, business, trade, banking as well as the investment industry.

The event was attended by the artistic director of the New York City Greek Film Festival and the famous Greek actress Maria Tzompanaki, who spoke about the importance of the festival to the Greek diaspora.

“The New York City Greek Film Festival started years ago from the nostalgia of the Greeks for their homeland and the good old Greek cinema. Today, the hand of nostalgia stands with the need to announce a new face of Greek culture to the third generation of Greeks living here, as well as movie lovers, cinephiles of all ethnicities living in New York.

The president of the Chamber, Clay Maitland, spoke in a greeting expressing his gratitude to the members of the Chamber, while the coordinator of the great event was the president of the Executive Committee, Markos Draktos, who spoke of the importance of the Hellenic American mission.
