Cats who love to play fetch

According to the famous writer Jules Verne, cats can even walk on clouds. Perhaps the imagination of the author of “20 Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” went a little further, but the studies of experts show that anything can be expected from cats. Research published in the scientific journal “PlosOne” confirms this, according to which cats love to play fetch.

So it is not the prerogative of only dogs that have long been used to the behaviors of this type. Almost 41% of the cats analyzed in this study enjoyed doing the activity, but in a playful context. In the case of dogs examined by the same researchers, however, as many as 77% of four-legged dogs were involved in getting training. There were 8,000 cats studied closely: more than 60% of this sample enjoyed carrying things around different rooms, while 40% chose the most suitable moment to start the game by bringing the game directly to the people. However, these are not the only peculiarities that emerge, many are surprising to say the least.

The importance of race

Specifically, more than all types determine a smaller or greater ability to extract. This behavior is actually more common in cats that come from Far Eastern countries. For example, the acquisition is typical of Burmese, Siamese and Tonkinese, in addition the behavior of the cat depends to a large extent on the evolution of the path of cats with people. It is not a question, as it happened with dogs, of choice and the fact that these animals have recovered things in unsuspecting times.

On the contrary, cats show a great ability to be attached to people and to respond to social signals. Fetching as a game has been explored by cats of different ages, in addition there is no particular thing they like, the important thing is the fetch itself. Based on the findings of experts, these habits are related to their predatory nature, more precisely when they are between 4 and 5 weeks old (ie when they are weaned). We are talking about the human relationship and in fact the carrying shows the attention that Puss maintains in these moments and on the other hand the readiness of the person who has to throw the object when the cat shows interest in this game.

The benefits of taking for cats

An additional element that emerged from the scientific study published by “PlusOne” is the kindness of cats. Whoever conducted the investigation realized that more than a third of the cats took the initiative to retrieve without being prompted to do so. This is a very high percentage and, as already mentioned, almost 40%, with a four-legged friend who is more willing to bring a boy a toy than to see him throw it and return it. Among other things, and certainly not a small detail, such activity is more than positive for Puss’s health. In addition to a physical exercise, the mind is stimulated and the human bond is strengthened, two aspects that improve the pet’s mood and emotions.
