A research group from California Polytechnic State University thoroughly studied the effects of substances included in plastic containers, incl plastic water bottles, and concluded that the substance bisphenol A can act on the human body immediately after contact with plastic, and interfere with the functioning of important hormones.
This substance has been banned in the European Union for the production of baby bottles since 2011, while the import and production of products containing it is prohibited, however. Corresponding arrangements are not made in other countries, where an EU resident can easily get eg a bottle of water that includes him, and not know it.
According to the study data, the subjects given bisphenol have decreased insulin response, which means that the substance increases the risk of the event type II diabetes. Although bisphenol has been linked to this disease in the past, does this study establish the context of the relationship? and prompted scientists to demand it universal ban on it in the food and liquid consumption related products industry. The alternatives they provide are iron or glass containers, which do not include any plastic elements.
Another study on plastic bottles showed that the their exposure to sunlight deliver dangerous chemicals, especially volatile substances that enter the body and are blamed for increasing the risk of cancer.
In general, the recent conclusions of the research conducted on plastics show that a new method of their use is needed and that the ecological awareness of the public to reduce plastic is not just a fad of the time.
