According to the popular website trusted by millions of French tourists, “the church of Saint John in Kastri stands iconic on a rocky island that offers a fascinating panorama that “hugs” the Aegean. The setting is immortalized in the film adaptation of the musical Mamma Mia, which transformed the impressive rock from a sight of pirate attacks it served centuries ago, into an international attraction for to couples, nature lovers and walkers.

It is noted that the effort of the Municipality of Skopelos continues for the promotion of emerging markets, such as the French market, which in recent years has shown a strong preference for the Sporades.
“Mamma Mia in Skopelos is not a movie, it is an experience. Those who visit Skopelos love the nature, the hospitality, the homely taste, the beautiful alleys and the activities and in the end come back again and again because they became our friends. After all, this is the essence of the vacation we want to spend”, explained Eva Karamesini, the president of the Skopelos Municipality Tourism Committee.
At the same time, with the aim of reviving the romantic atmosphere of Mamma Mia, the Municipality of Skopelos chose this year to appeal to the traveling public through an original music video starring the “flying” pianist Elena Xydia. The artist’s piano was placed next to the chapel of Agios Ioannis at the top of a 100-meter high rock in the context of long hours of filming that was done with the support of many volunteers. Against the backdrop of the blue-green waters of Skopelos, Ms. Xydia “brings Mamma Mia to life” by playing timeless ABBA compositions on the piano.
