Spetses: Tour of the temples-monuments of reference in the Old Port

The opportunity free tour and guided tour of ecclesiastical monuments in reference to Spetson the island’s municipal authority offers the lover of history and ecclesiastical art, starting this Saturday, July 6, with the first visit-meeting with them historic island temples at the entrance of the Argolic Gulf.

Specifically, the Municipality of Spetses invites any interested visitor or resident of Spetses on Saturday afternoon to follow the tour of two amazing ecclesial monuments in the island’s Old Port which was inextricably linked with the Greek Revolution of 1821.

That is, the Holy Monastery and Metropolitan Church of Agios Nikolaos, in front of which on April 3, 1821 the revolution against the Ottomans was declared for the first time on the island, and the Holy Church of Panagia in Armata, built in give thanks to the Virgin for the Naval battle of Spetses on September 8, 1822.

“This is the way we highlight the architecture and also the historicity of the churches in our area”, says the Mayor of Spetses Evgenia Frangia, presenting the “Church” program of the Municipality of “K”.

The starting point of this one-hour tour is at 7:30 pm. it is the Holy Church of Agios Nikolaos.

A second tour will follow later in the summer, which will include three other historic churches on the island, in the oldest settlement of Kastelli, namely the Dormition, the Taxiarches and the Holy Trinity.
